Home Made Shorty Antenna for 7 MM stud
I got tired of waiting for a company to make a shorty antenna to fit my 7 MM thread. I ordered a replacement antenna from CED (PN15141455 -- less than $25 w shipping). I cut 9 1/8" off the top and then cut the remainder of the antenna flush at the base. I had to have a machine shop drill out the remaining antenna to a depth of 9/16" -- the antenna is HARD steel and the base is brass. Then I cleaned off 9/16" of the black coating from the bottom of the top piece I cut off and then, using a soldering iron, I soldered the top piece into the base. I rolled the finished antenna on a table top to make sure I got it as straight as I could. It stands just over 10" from the stud base and looks like a miniature factory antenna with the wire coiled around it. No reception problems so far.
