Spring time dance.......3 bikes.........
It's been a long winter and the Cobalt finally comes out of the garage. Hope y'all like the story......
There's a cold nip in the air this morning, 36 degrees with a slight touch of humidity. The garage door opens and I see her staring at me, hoping I choose her over the grumpy ol’ truck today. Her lights flash as I walk towards her. I step inside and place my cup in the holder. I turn the key to its first click and hear her excitement. It’s been a long winter and she’s been waiting to get out. With a flick I listen to her purr and wait for her to warm up. I sip my coffee and stare at the morning mist hovering at the ground in the yard.
She tells me she’s ready to go with just a slight change in pitch from the exhaust. I engage the clutch and slide into first. We travel up the driveway and into the neighborhood that is awake with the morning rush of children going to school. Today is supposed to be a nice day. I take my left turn and make my way through small town USA.
I reach the first stop sign and one of the kids on his bike notices the Cobalt. He looks over at me and sets his pedals for a race, two more bikes join in. I lean forward and get ready to launch, I give the engine a small rev and slowly release the clutch. The three stand up and begin their decent down the block, they immediately pull a bike on me. The Cobalt struggles to keep up. We manage to get even with the lead bike, he looks over and grins, he’s just been toying with me, he throws it to another gear and I watch him pull away, the other two follow close behind, I throw it in neutral and coast to the next stop sign. I see they are basking in their victory over the Cobalt. They wave as they make their turn towards the school, I give them a thumbs up and make my way to the hiway.
I know she feels bad for the loss, letting me know she could have beat them. We finally make it to the entrance ramp, she’s eager to be finally let loose after all these months. I put her in second and make the right hand turn onto the onramp, her supercharger eager to ingest that cool dense air. I look for hiway traffic, none, I love the country. I look down and wait for her to climb to 3k rmps and then……..WOT up the onramp. 40,…50,… she’s feeling fine and I can hear her appreciation with the sound of the supercharger……60…..15psi on the gage……70……16 psi….., shift to third, foot off the gas quick 4th and 5th and cruise to 75. She’s happy to be out on the open road again and purrs with delight as the next 25 miles is just open road till the city limits. It sure makes for a nice way to start the morning.
