a capacitor is never NEEDED, it doesnt hurt to run a system without a capacitor, a capacitor jsut makes things better... kinda. What a capacitor does is it builds up a charge from your battery and holds it until what ever it is hookd up to needs it. In this case your subs. So it holds a charge until you subs hit and then releases it. The point of this is so that yo lights and other electronics in your car dont dim or get less power because of the insane amount of power needed for the subs. But after you turn your subs up high enough a capacitor doesnt really do anything. I have a capacitor in my trunk right now, and really it doesnt help that much.
So i would say no you dont need one, especially them being like 100$ +. But it will stop your headlights from dimming by alot, but will never completely stop them from dimming.
I recommend if you were going to get one, take that money and upgrade to a better battery for your car, or just another battery to run all your add ons too, system, neons etc. Another battery is the only way to completely stop dimming of lights from your system. Next best thing is a better battery next best thing is a cap.
