enough power?

how much power can a cobalt lt give to an amplifier? just one, possibly two in the future, along with subs

so it would be a 400 watt amp and a 1000 watt amp

theoretically would i need anything? whats this capacitor ive heard of and what does it do, how does it install etc. thanks

creedin added 12 Minutes and 31 Seconds later...

okay so i did the math according to crutch field

105 amp altenator x 40 /100 is 42
400 watt amp (4x100rms) x 2 / 13.8 = about 57 / 3 about 20

so id have 22 amps left to work with correct?

anyone know where to get a higher alternator and how easy it is to install?

That should be fine. Lots of cars run that setup just fine. I was planning on doing something similar.

A capacitor just keeps the flow of power constant. Keeps the subs from taking took much power an dimming lights and such. You'll need it if you have a really powerful setup, like over 1200 watts (and thats a good company's wattage that doesn't overrate their stuff).

The stock alternator is pushing 130 amps, you will be fine sticking with stock.

o i thot it was 105 amps...?

okay so a 100 rms x 4 channels is 400 * 2 = 800 / 13.8 = ~57 / 3 is ~20
plus
1000 rms x 1 channel is 1000 * 2 = 2000 / 13.8 = ~145 / 3 is ~48

so a total of 68 would be needed... but i only have 52 available?

and all of the ratings are just what the amp needs, and the amp powers the speakers and subs so i don't need to account for the speakers or subs power right??

In the setup I have, I'm pushing 2 12" Kicker CVRs with a 1000w Amp and a 1 farat Cap. The system sounds terrific, and there is no power dimming going on anywhere in the car. You'll be fine.

i think a battery can pretty much put out a pretty insane amount of power. I know itsnot a cobalt but my buddys got a big van, idn what kind but hes got 42 speakers 4 subs and 4 amps in his car. two 1500 wat amps and two 750 wat amps and they all get power from a single battery, yes the lights dim like crazy when the subs hit, but thats it, everything still runs fine. And yes that wasnt a typo, 42 speakers, i know its crazy.
