Exhaust Manifold Leak-->damage Engine?

I have an exhaust manifold leak and if its not the manifold I am assuming it a gasket or the downpipe. Can this leak damage my engine in anyway such as misfires or fuel injector issues cause I got a cel code that car was running lean. But I dont feel a loss in power or response. I have a fuel line leak which is being fixed and might be cause of cel. I was curious of damage it could be causing because I am gonna replace the gasket or manifold myself

You just have an exhaust leak. Since its pushing exhaust out of the engine, nothing is going to get in, although there is always a chance. You're getting a cel because your o2 sensors aren't reading properly because of the leak. Fuel line has no sensors AFAIK.... first off, how do you know you have an exhaust leak in the first place?

Probably the downpipe/cat converter. I had to have mine repalced under warranty at about 68,000 miles, the cat was cracked.

Well I havent sprayed anything on it to fi nd the direct spot but it sounds like its coming from where the downpipe and manifold connect with 3 bolts. Its loud as hell and a mechanic told me but.he also.wanted to charge me 300 when I can.do it my .self for cheaper. Youll have to excuse my android.phone.it.partially retarted........lol

I have been doing my research and apparently chevys stock down pipe is crap and alot of people are having problems with down pipe leaking. I am thinking i would be better off with an aftermarket down pipe. And i think there is a sensor for fuel but it wouldnt tell you if thereis a leak but it will trigger if there isnt enough fuel getting to engine. But thatbcould stem to pump or injectors which scares me lol i dont need that right now

if you get an aftermarket downpipe, but plan on keeping the stock header, make sure you get a downpipe that has 2 bung's for the o2 sensors. most only come with one, because they figure "if you're buying an aftermarket downpipe, you probably already have a header" most, if not all, aftermarket headers come with an o2 bung at the exit of the manifold itself. just make sure to ask questions before you buy. i have the zzp 2.5" catted downpipe, love it. not too expensive and it's good quality shit.

dude i drive like an asshole and people look at me all the time. i don't care because i know i have a better, faster, more reliable car than their audi (figure of speech). how hard do you drive your car? if you drive it damn hard without an engine mount, i wouldn't doubt it's a flexpipe. now keep in mind, whenever you get a new downpipe, the warranty on that product is only covered if you get a solid engine mount.... i would highly suggest that for 3 reasons. 1. it looks ****ing cool as hell. 2. because it reduces wheel hop pretty good. 3. you will get a warranty on your damn downpipe! now do what you have to do, i suggest spending the extra money on a zzp OR a header/downpipe combo instead of wasting money on something stupid and unreliable

yes get the gaskets. your set up will be like this UNLESS you buy a new header...

option 1 - manual/auto (whichever you have but MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE CORRECT ONE, they are different lengths)
option 2 - add cat
option 3 - bolt in
option 4 - add bung for 2.2L
option 5 - add gaskets
option 6 - up to you on what you want to do here. i sold my old downpipe for 80 bucks

honestly though, i would suggest just getting a new header also. i got the bad-mab one BAD-MAB.com it's pretty sweet and a very good price

---------- Post added at 08:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 PM ----------

and if you buy a header, option 4 would be "no extra bung"...UNLESS you plan on going supercharged at one point, then i would suggest buying the "add o2 for wideband" and also buying this Cobalt & Ion ---> ZZ Performance
that's what i did.
