Help is always appreciated, but I didn't see any help just a statement with no backup.

Was it Pennzoil Platinum that has problems?

What car/engine did it happen to?

How many miles before the gunk began to invade?

Thanks......

Good point! I used to use Quaker State in all my V8s and I can't tell you how many people bad-mouthed it. I never had ANY engine problems with it. Now I use Castrol in my V6s and L4s primarily because it's available in just about every type store.

I don't doubt your intentions, it's just that you asked for input and after he answered.....lets just say it wasn't the best response.....My intention here is not to single you out but to get the point across to everybody...so we can all get along:D

hmm, the cobalt is running castrol syntec, been running syntec since the first oil change, done whenever i either deem it fit to do, or i can find time to do it.

the camry has some bulk-purchased oil from my shop, god only knows what it is, did the first oil change about 1k (km) ago

running Kendal GT1 full synthetic, changing filter every 5,000 and will probably change oil every 10,000 or so

i change mine at 50 and check it at 75 but i use castrol gtx always... cant get into synthetic yet just cause if im broke and cant afford it i cant use regular. i did a test a while back ago but cant find the old write up... i put several diff types of metal in containers and put diff brand oils in them and checked the deterioration and castrol seemed the best but IMO. might have to do it again and redocument it.

according to some small reasurch i found that Mobil 1 is still the best proven(tested) oil that you can buy thats not a rediculous price. Q the quaker state came in second, pennsoil platnum in 3rd, and valvoline syn tec in 4th. But honetly their are all good(over kill) oils and any will be very good for your car. So get the cheapest one and sleep easy at night. Rule of thumb "if its synthetic its already an overkill". P.S. pennsoil showed to be the best cold start oil over all the rest and was very comparable in all the other categories too. References: most of this info comes from the experts at bobtheoilguy.com
