tapping into temp gauge?

i was wondering where i could tap into the teperature gauge. the digital temp doesnt really tell me how hot the engine is or if its about to over heat.

Or can anyone just tell me what temperature does the car have to be till it over heats, my car got up to 120 then i shut down the car to cool off

your car is only operating at 120F? normal operating temps is 180-200F. now if you're talking 120C then you might have a problem.
