CF engine covers

Just wanted to let everyone know that the CF engine covers I have on my car are soon to be officially for sale through aerokits.net/chaser aerodynamics. The price is most likely going to be around $500 a set, and the parts will be available individually. The price may sound high to you, but it is due to the way that they were made. Here are the emails I got from Daniel at Chaser that explains the process and why they are so expensive.

Email 1:
As far as cost goes I made that part with infusion manufacturing process which is basically double the cost of over hand laid parts. Believe it or not the best price I can do would be $499 for each set. If there is big quantity
(over 100 sets) then I might be able to do better, but I don't think
there will be.

I can make the part with a cheaper manufacturing process but then there
might be fitment problems, The infusion sucks all the resin out of the
part for perfect resin content and makes the part strong and thin. The
strength isn't so important but the fact the part is thin will help it
fit over the stock plastic.

Best regards,

Daniel Chase

Email 2:
Thanks for the email. I'm glad to hear they fit good. Now, I have a
large investment in these covers, so I need you to help sell them for
me. I get people every day calling and wasting our time looking for
"sponsorships"... well, I did it for you, I spent about $XXXX...
probably more making these covers happen for you. You can choose to
embrace it, make it a positive thing for you, your Cobalt community,
and our company and we will continue to help you and your community out
with other products or you can choose to do nothing and I take a pretty
large financial loss.

I need you to stand up for all these people asking for sponsorships and
make this happen. I know you can do it. Good luck.

I'm open to listen to whatever the community wants, as far as price and
quantity goes. Use the forums to get the word out, post pictures, etc, and let me know what you can come up with.

Best regards,

Daniel Chase

Email 3:
$500 is high, but its because its infusion manufacturing process and
epoxy resin. I made it like that to be super thin and strong. If I use
polyester resin and infusion it will be cheaper, and if I use polyester
resin and hand laid it will be even cheaper than that but the customer
might have to grind the back a little for it to fit because hand laid
always has excess resin.

Post what I said on the forums and maybe someone will know about the
resins and different manufacturing process' and educate everyone on the
differences.

I can sell the covers separately. The pics look good, thanks.

Best regards,

Daniel Chase

So there it is directly from the manufacturer. Let me know what you guys think as far as the price, who is interested in buying parts, and any other thoughts that you might have. And maybe IMA can jump in here and do some more explaining since he has a lot of expirience with CF.

Im interested in knowing what each part will cost individually? It does seem high but then i remembered how big the plastic engine cover is and how much detail the cf has to go over. I think the most expensive part would be the engine cover. In my opinion to make up the 500 it would be something like 300 for the engine cover, 100 for the fuse cover, and 100 for the ecu cover. I know cf is not cheap. My fuel rail cover cost almost 100 and it was hand laid

My guess is that it's probably gonna be about $250 for the engine cover, and $125 each for the other 2, but I'm still waiting to hear back on individual pricing

Honestly I'd expect the fuse box cover to come in under 100$. I'm not saying that if it doesn't it's a rip off because it's not, but I think it's the least complex and could be done for fairly cheap. The engine cover is complex and there is ALOT of carbon fiber there so it's going to cost a bundle. I would actually be surprised to see it under 350$ by itself. Plus that mold would be a pain to make as well. There is alot of cost in that piece.

I didn;t think of all that. I was just guessing based on size, but that is true. I'm hoping to have the individual prices sometime this week

Alright guys, just got the individual prices today. The prices are $300 for the big piece and $125 each for the smaller two, or $500 for all three. If interested in ordering, call 866-360-KITS and tell them you're interested in the new Cobalt engine covers

He did say that they could make them cheaper but the quality would not be as good. You think you can make them using the same stuff and techniques that Chaser Aerodynamics uses for cheaper?
