Never mind. I contacted Chevy Customer Service directly via a phone number I found on the web. They contacted the dealer about the problem. Then the dealer called me in for another look. The dealer fixed the problem. It was still under warranty. All is well. It is a joy to drive again.

2010 Chevy Cobalt, automatic, 1G1AD5F58A7171508. Engine light came on. Felt hesitation followed by thrust. Dealer replaced the 1-2 shift solenoid. Transmission fluid and filter replaced.

The next day I noticed :
    Transmission sometimes felt thumpy.
When driving in stop-and-go traffic, the engine coolant temperature was hotter (at 220) than I ever remember.
On a level road at 35 mph the tachometer shows the rpms going between 200 faster for a few seconds, and 200 slower for a few seconds, etc. I can feel a bit of a thump with that.

Dealer test drove it and found no problems. Assured me 220 is within normal range.

Weeks later, manager of the dealer service (an angel for the past 5 years): Pulled the bolt to check the transmission fluid level. Verified cooling fan(s) were working correctly. Also, “Road test / scan test verify proper operation of torque converter clutch, on and off”.

Engine light is off. Any suggestions?

    ChevyCustSvc,

I had the Fuel Pump recall / Special Policy (#12190) performed on 8/9. After picking the vehicle up from dealer at the end of the day, we observed a rattling and intermittent acceleration noise. I have made an appointment with my dealer, but fear it will be our word against theirs. Not trying to cheat anyone, but we have effectively traded one issue for another.

I believe they will assess a $160 fee to see the car, but this is a faulty repair from a factory warranted recall.

Can you offer any words of advise on how to approach the issue with the Service Advisor?

I have created a thread asking our fellow yourcobalt-ers for advice: http://www.yourcobalt.com/forums/problems-service/63137-rattle-following-fuel-pump-recall.html

I can provide contact/dealer/location information, but prefer to do so privately. Thank you very much for reading,

Hi I was hoping you could help me find the OEM part number for the wheels on my 2008 Cobalt Sport.

    VIN 1G1AM58B487127776
    Paint Code U8867

A local body shop has tried 3 times and has not been successful in replacing my wheels with the correct units. The stock wheels are alloy and had silver metallic paint in between the spokes.

Also, can you check whether my vehicle is up to date with recalls? I just had the ignition lock cylinder replaced due to binding.

I love my Cobalt, would just like to get this wheel issue behind me.

    Thanks for your help!
    Nate

Hi, I am writing about a recent bill I paid to Sir Walter Chevrolet dealership in Raleigh, NC to activate the cruise control on a 2008 Chevy Cobalt LT. I explained that I had already installed factory GM cruise control, and that I just needed to have it activated in the BCM. After 30 minutes, the shop was unsuccessful. I provided instructions, but the mechanic got an attitude with me and said that it was impossible. Nonetheless, the dealership charged me $55. Today, I took the car to a local shop that happened to have a Tech II. It only took the mechanic 5 minutes, and the cruise control works perfectly. I am very upset with the dealership. Of all places, they should be the most competent when working with a Chevy vehicle. I feel that I was taken advantage of by the dealership, and I am very angry about the misinformation they provided and their unhelpful attitude. Is there anything I can do to recoup my costs? Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Erica,

No, my battery was drained due to the headlights being left on overnight. After trickle charging the battery, I ran into both symptoms of the key fob no longer working (and can't get the car to learn) as well as all 4 tire pressure sensors showing dashes. I can't get the car into learning mode for this either.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hello,

I am running into TSB 08-03-16-001B after having my car battery die over the weekend. Is this something that should be addressed as a No Charge item on a 2008 Cobalt? Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Tom

Hi Sarah, I was wondering if you could check my VIN against the recall/TSB list. My key will NOT turn in the ignition. It happened twice several months ago, but today, it's been horrible..took over an hour for me to get it to start. My VIN is 1G1AK55F977407642. It is a 2007 Cobalt LS. Thank you
