Well I havent had any probs yet, BTW, you get a Realrubber eraser, cut into 4 squares that 4 mm high, and put thme over the memory chips, the DIY i saw said to use double sided tape, but i opted for superglue, little more reliable, i shoulda got some pics for it, but owell, hes tryin to get another one for me. LoL. although i love my softmodded PS2.

i cant believe that the RROD could happen from a cold start, due to bad thermal paste................i wonder what the wasters were for...something to do with holding the heatsink in place...i think if i were to crack the case though, i would put a better heatsink on there....

The washers are used for spacers. The distance between the Heat Sink and the mainboard is very important as it produces an exact pressure.

There is a kit you can buy to fix the problem along with a very detailed DIY found HERE with pictures and Youtube videos. But keep in mind that all fixes for the 3RloD have been labeled temporary. Some last indefinitely but most fail within a couple months.

Price for kit $14.99

They also suggest in this tutorial NOT to use the metal washers like in the other one.
