With Windows Vista...definitely go big on everything...RAM, Hard Drive...etc. Go big or go home. The only thing I don't like is that the automatic skin updates...like at the bottom it might be green one day then it might change to blue or gray or w/e. My friend has a Dell Inspiron Notebook and it's slow as all get out but it was the biggest one available and she hates it cuz Windows Vista took up most of her space on the comp with all the files and stuff.

Talk about a post whoring.

If you plan to keep us updated on issues as they arrive, this will become a mighty long thread.

Here is some good advice --> WinXP-Pro sp2

sp3 is coming, but do not install it until we've had a few months to work with it too.

I've heard a lot of bad things about how Vista drags the computers down. I have an old ass computer that used to have Windows 2000, I upgraded to XP which made it run even slower, and its still faster than my father in laws brand new computer with Vista....He has a lot more RAM than I do.

Windows Vista Ultimate: 32-bit
MSI 865PE Neo-2 Platinum Edition
Pentium 4 2.4GHz @ 3.2GHz FSB @ 267 x 4 = 1068
1GB DDR400 @ 426MHz
Sapphire Radeon X800GTO 256MB (16 pipes unlocked) AGP
Western Digital 60GB HD
Western Digital 500GB External HD
DVD/CDRW

Runs great. Have had no "lag" issues with Vista.

Running Vista Ultimate 32 bit, most GUI features enabled.

the machine:
Dell Dimension DM061
Intel Core 2 duo @2.2GHZ
2 GB Ram
ATI Radeon X1300 PRO @ 256mb GDDR2
250GB HDD, unsure of brand. this is my father's computer.
DVD-RW DL
CD-RW

Runs hella nice. I have absolutely no complaints. as mentioned, most just complain because the lack of necessary hardware to run Vista. the big improvement in vista over xp, to me, is the security. in some places microsoft went a little overboard.

I really dislike Vista. I have it on my Toshiba laptop and it's way too over protective. let's say I want to watch a DVD. Vista says "a dvd is in your drive do you want to run it?" well of course I put it in there didn't I? So I click yes then it says "would you like run the dvd in your drive with this program" again yes you douchebag. Then there's one more screen I can't remember.

JUST PLAY THE DAMN MOVIE!!!

/vista rant

i have vista on my HP Pavillion dv2000 laptop, of course, the laptop is specifically set up for use with my DJ job, music programs UTA!!!!!

i find the only annoying thing i am having to deal with is programs not working properly, and constantly stopping randomly, then windows trys to search for bloody solutions to problems most likely caused by the operating system itself, but i love the remarkeable "switch between windows" button, so fun to play with
