is it the 5.9 or 6.7 CTD? i have zero complaints with my truck...has balls and can haul shit...2 of the main reasons i got it

IMO Dodge has the nicest looking full size trucks...and the CTD is a workhorse. the 5.9 is a proven beast and the 6.7 with all of the emission standards and what not, some guys are having issues while others have zero...tell them to visit dodgetalk . com (im on there a hell of alot more than here with the same screen name)

Preach it brother! Cummins motors are so good because they're industrial motors and are not designed or manufactured by Chrysler. Keep the oil and filters clean and they'll last 300k.

They'll last a lot more the 300k... try a couple million miles. When I worked at a dealer, we had one come in with 1.5 million miles - fleet truck. Damn thing wouldn't die. Just regular maintenance and not going cheap on oil - full synthetic, always, in everything.

1.5 million with the motor never being rebuilt or anything? I guess I have been reading my buddies Diesel Power where those motors tend to blow up after about 150-250k since they're running some insanely high peak boost pressure, I want to say upwards of 60 psi...if one of the Cummins were just a detuned industrial freeway baby, I could see it going atleast half a million trouble free. My buddies is still nuts, 210k miles, dynoing like 650-700 rwtq and like 350 or so rwhp daily driver tune and still running strong as hell.

I was reading about some kind of fuel system mod on the common rail motors where you open a part of the block up and there is a screw in there metering flow...something like that...the guys remove it or put a lighter spring to get more fuel and power. I guess it's a cheap mod to bump fuel pressure to make more power. I could be wrong though, do you have any idea what I'm talking about?

This is my 4th car. First was a 90 Grand Am LE 4-door, then a 92 SL1, then 99 SC1, now Cobalt. This is the first car without any options.

I modded my SC1 and I'm modding my Cobalt. I won't do much though since I want to save for a sportier vehicle to put money in. Trailblazer SS, SSR, GTO, C5 Corvette, or G8 when they've been out for a while....those are my GM choices, otherwise I have a couple other choices. I figure once the Cobalt is paid off, I'll just put the money away that I spend on my payments (payment is $255 and I'm paying $300 right now...will pay $400 when my wife's G6 is paid for in a year and a half). Once I save half the cost of the car, I'll pick one up. Obviously this is a 5 year plan (as I'll be 25 this August) and want to have a sports car/vehicle by 30. The vehicles will also be older and have more miles on them by that time, but oh well.
