Unhappy Cobalt Shuts Off While Driving.

i was driving my 2007 cheverolet cobalt this past wed night. after i started pulling off at the traffic light and made a left turn my car shutoff. the radio was still playing but my engine quit running and my lights are bright and are not dim. i have a brand new battery, theres gas in the car. when i try to crank the car up it just clicks. so today i went and put 2 screwdrivers on the starter and had someone turn the key to try to start it. and it tried to turn over but wouldnt start. i had noticed tapping when i would crank it up for the first time in the morning. and the night it quit running on me its was sputtering. but i had gas in it so i know its not that.

I have bn told several things but am unable to get it to the shop. i've bn told it could have jumped time, alternator, starter or the motor went out.

I Did however accidently let it get low on oil. but put 4 quarts of oil in it and some lucas oil to stop the tapping and slight knocking when i got over 65mph. can someone please help me...

Sounds like it jumped the chain. If you ran it without oil that chain must have turned blue from heat not to mention crank bearings. Probably enough to melt the guides.
