5th gear
 
every time i shift into 5th gear and only 5th i hear a little bit of grinding, i have a 05 base model, is there any adjustments i can do? the car has 53000 miles.

My cavalier used to do that, 5th gear was shot. Try putting the shifter into 5th gear position VERY slow, you might not hear grinding.

sounds like a synchronizer is going out, if thats the case that is internal transmission and very expensive to fix. you should have 5year 100,000 mile warrenty on it thought. i would check with the dealer and see what warrenty is and take it in

get it serviced immediately, it is the synchro for the fifth gear, and if left unserviced, you could end up wrecking your transmission

anybody get a similar repair performed not under warranty, the 05s had a 3 year 35,000 mile warranty, just wondering on what cost to expect

sorry, mine was warranty, but i know that for a full overhail, you are looking about $11,000ish, i think that is what the bill said it cost to do.....

I found an autowrecker here with a few accident prone cobalts in it. One of them has a 5 speed manual with a 2.2l motor??????

$2900 for reman tranny, new clutch, and flywheel so.... take out price for flywheel and clutch. =P

clutch is $560, my shop price, the flywheel is like another $500, so do the math, or go and yank one from a wrecker for less than that
