I purchased my new 09 XFE August 28th on the cash for clunkers program. Traded in my old 1990 s-10 Blazer and got the cobalt for half price after cash for clunker money and employee discount as I work at a Chevy dealer.

09 Cobalt LS XFE 5 speed

My goal with this car is to make it a nice looking, dependable daily driver. I am not trying to make my car fast, I also enjoy getting good gas milage with it. I like a clean vehicle that has a good sense of style and is not super flashy screaming "LOOK AT ME!!"

I have my s-10 blazer for a toy that is overpowered and a huge attention grabber. refer to the following linked thread if you are interested in that project........http://www.yourcobalt.com/forums/other-cars/15095-my-bagged-bodied-blazer.html

thanks mike! it's getting color matched headlights, if I don't get the projectors anytime soon, I'll just paint the stockers to get by lol. I guess I just kind of got an idea, I'm thinking I want red everything except for black rims, black windows, and the tinted rear lights lol

painted trunk struts

shot of the hood strut

night shot of the tails

here are the resistors I mounted inside to run the LED tails

you'll notice in that pic one of the nuts for the taillight is missing, that was because the factory cross threaded one of them on the factory taillights and I had to destroy it to get the taillight out lol. it is all fixed now and I had the taillight assembly replaced under warranty.

ok here is my latest mod. I decided to completely paint the entire outer mirrors instead of just the caps. I don't know if I like the end result or not lol. I guess in a way I like it just because it's unique and I have never seen this done on a cobalt yet. so let me know what you think. oh and I only have crappy pics for now. I will have to wait till daylight and when my car is actually clean lol.

Tell me your opinions!!! I am undecided......

Also!!this mod is a lot harder than just painting the mirror caps. the mirror body is a different type of material and if you want to get a smooth look. you have to first sand the crap out of it and it still won't be smooth because it's a weird material. then I had to use several coats of filler primer and sand the crap out of that. it was really hard to get a nice smooth look.

yeah that's my reaction, "it's different" lol. maybe it will grow on me. I just looked back to when the mirrors were completely black and I like them painted rather than solid black lol. thanks coffin!

#9 ·
i always thought thats how the damn car should have came..

#12 ·
I'll take that as a compliment! thanks

looks good blaze mirrors and all. i wish i was that good ain't painting things. lol but i am to impatient.. lol nice car though

hey neat mods so far, hadn't even seen your showoff thread till just now, hah

i like your mirror paint-job tho - looks good, should keep it i say - did you use GM dealer paint?
well I started my show off thread after you disappeared for a while lol, so it's pretty new. thanks about the mirrors. so far it sounds like it's a good mod as far as others opinions. and yes I used the GM spray can paint. but I mixed up clear coat and shot it on with a paint gun after that. they looked like crap without clear coat lol.

Thanks Mike!!!
I've seen that car!
hahaha, i can ALMOST park my side mirrors under his! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

oh & i like the painted mirror doohickies, i think it looks awesome!
haha!! well I've seen your car too!! you won't be able to be close to parking your side mirrors under mine for long!!! just got my springs today!!!!
and thanks Christy!!!
That's a cool mod! Never thought of doing that... That's sweet though.
Thanks Jess!!!

so today after looking at the mirrors in the daylight, I have started to decide that I do like them. just looks a lot cleaner IMO. I'm glad I did it.

#21 ·
ok boys and girls, I have an update to report.

look what showed up at my house yesterday!!!

Christy you will still be lower than me but no more parking your mirror under mine!! haha. prolly will install them this weekend if time allows.

and here is what i worked on tonight......

Instead of painting my interior dash trim a different color, I decided that I just wanted to make it shiny. I kind of like the color that it is but it has that dull finish. so I just sprayed all of the pieces with clear coat and I think it's gonna look really nice.

before without camera flash

after without camera flash

before with camera flash

after with camera flash

I have not installed the pieces yet, and I did all of them including the steering wheel pieces. I want to wet sand and buff them out to a really nice finish.

#25 ·
holy crap camo, sorry that you didn't pick up on my sarcasm lol. I totally got it the first time lol!!!

#29 ·
I got a few pieces completely polished and installed. here is the passenger side piece. I am trying to get a perfect smooth glass finish on the clear coat. they are almost perfect but not quite lol. I am really picky though.
