Attention - Password and Security Update

Hello all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,

Helena

Yeah, I might quit coming here, I don't even remember my password. I logged on in 2010 and never logged off since. Why all the security all of a sudden?

Once you change the password on the account, you should be able to update it on your browser so it would automatically use the new passwords when logging in.

Several of us like to use the same passwords for all our accounts, online banking, email, work, etc. This is not safe since they're also linked to an email or a similar username. That makes it easy for it to be hacked cross platforms. So we're trying to be proactive.

The important stuff always gets its own password.. kind of annoying to be forced to change my password yearly for an online forum when I haven't ever had to change the password for my online credit card accounts..

Sorry for the inconvenience, but we also want to protect the site. One compromised account can be used to vandalize the forum, and while what's done can usually be easily repaired, it's a preventable headache.

What members are you referring to?
Have they contact this account? If not, please have them send a PM to this account.

We will get to them as soon as they can.

Thank you for your patience,

Richard.
