GM Recalls 1.3 Million Cars Over Steering Fault |
|
Mar 02, 2010 - 8:42 AM - by Admin
|
DETROIT - General Motors Co is recalling 1.3 million compact cars in North America to address a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury, the company said on Tuesday.
U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation on Jan. 27 into approximately 905,000 Cobalt models in the United States after receiving more than 1,100 complaints of power steering failures.
The recall covers the 2005-2010 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007-2010 Pontiac G5 in the United States; 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada, and the 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico, GM said in a statement.
GM said it told the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the voluntary recall on Monday after concluding its own investigation that began in 2009.
GM said the affected vehicles can be still be "safely controlled" but it may require greater steering effort under 15 mph. Drivers will see a warning light and hear a chime if the power steering fails.
"After our in-depth investigation, we found that this is a condition that takes time to develop. It tends to occur in older models out of... [Read More]

2005 LSJ Recall "ENG PWR RDCD" |
|
Feb 11, 2010 - 12:25 PM - by XxChristalSSxX

Only administrators can post new threads in the recall section and I don't see one regarding this subject. So this is the most logical place to post until someone revises and reposts in the Recall Section.
I received a letter in the mail from GM stating that there is a recall on some (not all) 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged (not SS sedans/coupes without the supercharger; only 2.0 LSJ). The recall is in regards to the CID displaying "ENG PWR RDCD." It claims to be due to the catalytic converter. They have not specified if it is the cat itself or the sensors. I scheduled my car for new cat/sensors this morning @ 7am. I should have my SS back by the end of the day. I'll let you guys know more about it when I pick it up this afternoon/evening.
But on a funny note regarding this, my service technician (Brian Kitchens @ Ivan Leonard Chevrolet) called me @ 7:45am (45 minutes after I left the "stealer"ship) to ask this:
"Hey, Mrs. Grammer; this is Brian at Ivan Leonard. I have a question for you. Could you remind me why you dropped your Cobalt off this morning? I haven't had my coffee yet and I can't... [Read More]

Power Steering Recall **(Now Official)** |

UPDATE: Now Official Recall
http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...-update1-.html
A division of the FDOT (Federal Department of Transportation) called the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Administration) is responsible for cataloging safety complaints about vehicles sold in the United States. This information is used to initiate recalls by the auto manufacturers.
We know that the power steering in our cars is a VERY big issue that many of us have had to deal with. We love our balts, but this needs to be taken care of.
The following is the link to their site. Just click on complaints. Maybe we can make a difference in getting this problem solved before it causes something horrible to happen.
