Question 3.48

At 3.48 a gallon I have now officially wanted to get off my butt and do something when it comes to my MPG. I am new to this idea, and obviously need a little bit of help. My average MPG right now is 30 mostly hwy, I would like to see a little more. So please if you would from some MPG pro's only. Despite large expenses, what are some ways I can increase mine? I have a 2010 2.2L ecotec. So please, help me save some money.

Do you have a 5 speed or an automatic?

I got a lot of help from the links at the bottom of the post.
Some of the ideas are a bit on the extreme side but pick through and find ones you are comfortable with and start from there.

Some easy ones are to make sure your tire pressure is up. Running at like 38 psi cold will lower rolling resistance and still be a far way from the 44 psi (cold) sidewall max.

Try to time traffic lights so you just coast up to them and roll through as they turn green instead of racing up to them and then sitting at a red light wasting gas.

Keep a good distance from those ahead of you so if they turn off you don't have to hit your brakes hard. When you hit your brakes you are just turning gas/$ into heat in your brake pads.

Whatever speeds you usualy drive, drive 5 mph slower.

My wife drove from our home in NC to visit family in MD and I drove home a few days later. Same weather and traffic conditions. Me driving home took 25 minutes more (350 mile trip) but I used 1.5 gallons less gas.
You make the call if it's worth it.
