Interstate MPG Manual

I've got a 5 speed manual 2.2 that gets 35-36 mpg at around 55-60 mph on a 4 lane highway. Well I took it on a 5 hour trip over the weekend. Running 70-75 mph on the interstate the RPMs were at almost 3000 and my mpg dropped all the way to 32. Too bad GM didn't put a 6 speed in these things.

If my memory serves me, the L61 was rated at 9.5 L/100km city and 6.1 highway. It was a breeze to shatter the city rating, but getting 6.1 on the highway was tough. Tooling around at 90 km/h with the cruise control on couldn't even do it.

No problem at all. I used to average 53 mpg when I drove 100km each way for school if I did 90km/h. If I did 100 I would see 48-50mpg. I had a 5 speed with no cruise so it was all my foot.

The hardest part of all was driving at 90 lol. I typically cruise at 110 and the readout would be between 7.0-7.5 L/100k.

Yeah at 100 the readout was 6.6-6.8L/100km but actually doing the math was always higher.

The LAP with the XFE package is supposed to be phenomenal.

I mean you COULD tune the transmission taller toward the higher gears, but I don't know how tunable the stock gearbox is.

Driving a 2005 Chevy Cobalt Base.

The physical gears would need to come out and be replaced by something taller. Kind of a pita and probably not worth the effort unless you're a level 5 hypermiler or higher lol

Or can do it yourself. If you did tons of highway with your cobalt you could always buy a transmission from.a wrecked xfe edition. However some of their improvement is from their tune.
