Taking out factory radio question

I'm getting close to finishing out my car-pc (carputer). I estimate next weekend...and I'll post up some pics on it and how I changed my interior trim a bit too.

My question is....the window tinting place guy told me that I should make sure the radio doesn't run other devices - and so I checked...not everything works when it's disconnected. Is there a mini-brain I need to buy/install? Is it needed no matter what after-market radio/device you install??

And then - could I buy it online or should I just get a mobile audio place install it for me? (just that part...I'm doing the rest)

Much thanks to any help you can give me!!

Hellos?

With everyone talking about their aftermarket system lately, I would have hoped someone would have spent 15 seconds to reply...some help please?

Perhaps even a push in the right direction? Or a shove?? I'll take either!

the only thing that i can think of is that it's not getting power from the harness.

what on the car dosent work when you dont have the harness plugged in?

device

Thanks in advance burksdb...

Still haven't done the change over. However when I had my factory radio unplugged I couldn't hear my blinkers and other tones (like when I hit the door lock button)... That kinda confirms the rumor I heard. An audio installer said I'll need an adapter of some sort so that I can hear the tones because it normally goes through the radio.

I was on-guard for getting sold something I may not need, so I wanted to make sure before buying an adapter.

Does that sound at all possible?

yes it does but as far as i know all the adapters i have seen plug into the factory harness then into the deck, so i'm not sure if it will work or not.

someone else might know if there is a small bypass box for the chimes and dings.

**edit
this is the only thing i could find

Adapter

Excellent, thanks for going above and beyond here!

I'll take a look at this and google around. If it's ONLY the chimes, I hear that you can replace them via the computer anyways. I'll have to do some extra research....but you've pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks again!

project

i have all of the pieces...touchscreen and the PC (mini-TX board). Also have modified my glove box so I can mount the PC in there. This weekend I plan to make the mounts for the PC and make the mount for the touchscreen. Next weekend is when I plan to finish this out!

It's a 8 inch screen...and I don't have plans to fit it directly into the dash since it will be next to impossible. I wanted a bigger one anyways...I have an idea on how to mount it (it won't be flush, but it will still look just fine). my only concern is hiding it..but some fabric and velcro could fix that(another idea that's floating in my head).

I've never done any mobile audio in my life...so I'm learning a lot so far! Mostly due to this forum!

i got a wire harness for my new stereo and didnt wanna pay $100 so i bought one for $50. the only thing i dont get is the "dummy alarms" ie. door open trunk ajar and blinker on. personally im glad they're gone. but i'd say you'd most likely have to search down what each wire from the harness means and hardwire it in. thats just a thought, correct me if im wrong
