i was planning on swapping my base radio with the one with auxiliary and mp3 capability but there seems to be 2 plugs in the back instead of one would it still work?

I don't think its worth it in my opinion, better off getting aftermarket pioneer.I believe its more then just plug and play honestly.

from what I heard, its not just plug and play,he may have to go to the dealership, pay out of his ass even more for them to make it work, for all that money he would spend,he could have a double din aftermarket radio.

Garage
you'd need the exact model of the radio to get one that works

OK, here's the deal...if you have an 05 or 06, you can only use the 05 or 06 radios...07 and up have a different harness...the pins are different and IT WILL NOT WORK.

There were discussions about this in the past and also on CSS.net. I had an 07 base radio and upgraded to the 07 XM/MP3 head unit. No problems there. I paid about $50-75 on ebay for the radio, then I had to have the dealership do a reprogram for my VIN. That was another $50. Yes for $100 to 200 I could have gotten a great aftermarket head unit (or used the one I already own from my Saturn, but I didn't want something that was single DIN.

I'm quite happy though. I did it because for now at least I want to keep the factory appearance but have added MP3 capability.

That's also why I added an MTX X Thunderlink...it's not as big as a 10" or 12" sub box/amp. It takes up less space and still gives decent sounding bass for an all-in-one package. It doesn't take up the space and it isn't overpowering to the factory speakers.

I was considering for a moment trying to find out if the newest Cobalt radios (ones with USB port in front) still have the same harness as the 07's. I think they do, but not sure. But I figure if I do another upgrade this time it will be an aftermarket double DIN DVD setup. However, I'm anal, so I'd have to upgrade the speakers and add an amp as well. Then if I'm doing that, I'd get rid of my X Thunderlink and get back into a different sub setup.

I personally just wanted to get away from the aftermarket stereo stuff with this car. On my next car, I will probably go all out on that again since performance won't be an option. The way it's going, I'll wind up taking my wife's car and getting rid of the Cobalt in a few years so that she can get an SUV (which is something we desperately need, but can't afford right now...kids and a house mean needing to haul a lot of things...family and friends are great, but always asking them sucks). So when I get the 07 Aura XR from her, I'll do wheels, tint, lowering springs, intake, exhaust, and BIG ASS sound system. That's it. It's already a 3.6l with 252hp 14.5 seconds in the quarter mile stock.
