Radio Replacement

I have my factory radio in my 06 cobalt ls. I was wondering if it was possible to put a different factory radio in. Let me know.

If i remember correctly 05 & 06 can not be swapped. reason being is that in 07and ^ the door chimes and stuff go thru the radio. and in order for it to work from a newer cobalt 07 & ^ you have to rewire the radio and it's basically a PITA= not worth it.

Disclaimer: I am not a audio guru, but i am pretty sure about this.

Check the end result pics of my DIY. I love the look of my head unit, looks way better than stock, like I got some premium touchscreen upgrade or something. Stock head unit looks, and performs like crap compared to this IMO. My stock speakers kick quite a bit more than they did with the low-power stock head unit, and mines an 09 so there really isn't much benefit to upgrading to a later year's stock head unit. Big waste of time and money., Go for aftermarket, everyone appreciates a good aftermarket deck, more so touchscreens!

again, read my DIY, there is the same harness as I have that works WITH onstar etc, can find the model number on crutchfield. It will retain onstar, the chimes, etc. which i would suggest since yours is a brand new ss/tc. Also, most single din decks (boring lol) or double din touchscreens will fit and look amazing. Just go to crutchfield and go to 'outfit my car' and it will show you what fits, what you need to make it work, etc. I know you will need the double din dash kit like mine, you can buy it from them for like $20-30 or off ebay maybe $10-20. Also you'll need an antenna adaprot if you wanna keep your radio (that's also cheap, like $20-30) then pick the aftermarket head unit you want and make it sweeeet!
