When Getting an Amp Should I Look at Rms or Max Wattage??

I'm sure u all answered this 50 times but i found a good deal on an amp but have a question about it....

my sub is a kenwood 1200W max- 400W rms at 4 0hm

and the amp im looking at is a Eclipse XA1200 700W max- 500RMS at 4ohm and 600RMS at 2 ohm

i dont know if i'll be getting enough power out of this amp...the RMS is perfect but the max wattage is what i'm conserned about...

is this a good enough amp???

sub cost $60 --($120 at best buy)
amp cost $130 --(probualy 200 at best buy)

as long as you match the rms and ohms you will be fine..... max wattage means nothing unless you have a huge amp and crappy sub... as long as what you are amping is higher then the amp then your good..... besides most amps are WAY overrated for watts

Send a message via AIM to camopaint0707
rms is more important to look at than max wattage
