Two way means dual voice coils one for low to mid frequencies and the other for mid to high frequencies.

Three way means 3 voice coils, low mid and high.

The more, the better the speaker is and the more expensive it is. I put cheap pioneer 3 way's from amazon in my doors to replace blown stock speakers and it is a massive upgrade. Cardboard cone=bad sound.

They make 5 ways for the deck in 6x9, I need to get me some of those.

For the extra punch if you don't have a sub, some 3 ways are nice for the rear.

I have 3 ways in the front and 4 ways in the back (all wired up to an amp). Paired up with a sub and it sounds pretty good.

The more voice coils per speaker the less efficient it gets. Meaning you will need a lot more energy from your amplifier to push the same sound pressure level. High frequencies don't bounce as well as lows so no use trying to bounce high frequencies off of the back window. Ideally in a Cobalt if you don't have a sub you should not install greater than 2 way 6X9s on the back shelf. 6" 3 ways in the front doors or better yet if you have the means and talent 2 way 6" with a tweeter higher up like at mirror level if convenient. If you can get them at ear level even better.

Crutchfield is a quality company. Been using them for years. Anything you get from them will be badazz. They also have a quality help department too.
