Thinking of Installing New Head Unit...

Hey there! I was thinking about installing a new head unit in my 2010 Chevy Cobalt Sedan (Without Onstar).

My concerns are this:

1) I have JL speakers in both my front and rear and they sound AMAZING. How much more sound improvement will I get it if I install a new head unit (Specifically looking at a Sony)?

2) Will I need the expensive Wiring harness? I've heard yes and no. If I dont use the expensive wiring harness then what specific things will I lose?

Thanks in advance!

LT or LS?..

The expensive wiring harness is the one that will allow you to use your steering wheel controls with the new head unit.

I don't understand what you mean by sound improvement, if you're just installing a new HU.

I do mean louder/clearer. Obviously when I upgraded my stock speakers to some expensive JL's my sound improvement was incredible but I didnt know how much more it would improve by installing a new HU as well.

My model is the LT Sedan without Onstar.

Yes it will make a little difference. Stock headunit blows. If you want a huge difference you'll need a 4 channel amp. I too have JL speakers, love them.

I have an opportunity to buy a 4 channel amp but I'm concerned about installing it. I'm worried that I will screw something up. However, I have installed everything else by myself so far.

It will sound a lot better. Newer stereo s are at least 25 watts by 4. A big improvement over stock. You'll need the expensive harness if you want to keep your door chimes and alarms. To keep the steering wheel controls you'll need an additional harness as well.

I dont have steering wheel controls for the stereo...just for cruise control and stuff. Will I still need an additional harness?
