05/06 Stock HU with Aux in

so, i came across this radio on ebay that has an aux input for 05-06 model year. here is a link to the listing.
Chevy 2005 2006 Cobalt Am FM CD Car Radio w Aux iPod MP3 Input UN0 15272189 | eBay

If this company is able to add this option to these reconditioned radios, there has to be a way for the do it yourselfer to as well. Apparently they add the input to the circuitry of the radio. Not the mod that i've seen listed on this forum. The listing says"Simply plug your phone into the radio with a standard 3.5mm cable and it will overtake the FM radio. When you want to listen to FM again, simply unplug the cable from the radio and the unit will act as normal! The input goes directly into the radio's preamp so you won't be dealing with static or FM modulated audio!" What kind of circuitry would be needed for the radio to behave this way?

My head unit is the MP3 radio. I have an aftermarket ipod/aux adapter from pac audio but I'm about to change over my Sirius radio. The one I have now uses the aux input on my adapter but the one i'm going to uses a mini din cable. I will lose my aux in on the adapter. I would still like to have an aux input for people who ride in my car that have non-apple devices that want to play music. my radio has access to the band button menu so, i'm hoping theres a way to get this to work.

anyone know enough about these radios to figure this out?

Just grab an auxiliarg cord cut one end off open wires and splice the two wires 1 to left other to right side speaker wires. Then drill a whole where you want ot and glue it in. I've seen it done but I'm on my cell so can't find the pics. There is a vid on youtibe that tells tou how

yeah, I've seen that mod but this is different. I cant do that mod because I can't tune to XM channel 0. My radio is XM capable but It didn't come from the factory with the XM hardware or harness. My PAC audio/iSimple adapter uses the Sat radio port on the back of the head unit. I use the band button to switch to the XM section to enable the adapter but my options are iPod/Aux1/Aux2. iPod and aux 1 are for iPod use only and are just 2 ways to use the ipod. one setting is head unit control of the iPod while the other is for device control. The Aux2 setting is for the dedicated line input. thats the port/input I'll be losing when I switch Sirius receivers. I have to use a mini-DIN cable in that port to interface with the new Sirius receiver.
My current Sirius receiver is a plug and play Stiletto2 that I simply plug into my adapter with a mini headphone plug. Unfortunately, the stiletto is starting to crap out. I wanted a sat radio that I could control with my steering wheel/head unit and also one that would display all the RDS data.

I guess when I get the new Sirius radio hooked up, I'll be able to tune to channel 0 but I'd rather put in an input on the radio face itself as opposed to splicing wires in my harness

yeah, i may buy it. I just see cosmetic issues on the buttons in the photo. I'd think spending $130 on a refurbished radio would at least get new buttons! It is for sure unlocked?

Might just be a stock photo, you can question him first....

The sellers response:
"This listing has multiple radios available so the radio pictured is simply a representation. We send ones in the best condition possible but these are original buttons so they will likely eventually have the same problem. We may be refinishing buttons in the near future but it is fairly long ways off still, especially for low demand radios like this as the set-up for the refinishing is expensive and very time consuming for each model. Thanks for checking!"

be careful with buying a new stock radio for your balt.
When you hook it up to replace the old one, it will come up Locked.
You'll have to take it too a dealership to get it programed.
Only the year of the radio works on the year of the car.

I.e. 2010 cobalt will not work with a radio from a 2008 cobalt.

I didn't have time to read the rest of the thread, but I hope it helps!
