Goin Aftermarket but Without Adapter

Planning on getting a CD player with aux and usb inputs. Single, double din, they work the same right? Has anyone installed without the adapter retaining chimes and lived with it? Yes I am adding a regular radio harness.

in my '06 I didn't use one of those "pac" systems, I just used the harness to not need any stock harness chopping. I still retained all my chimes as 05-06 chimes go through the cluster, not the speakers, I'm not sure about '07+ though, I think those go through the speakers so you'll probably lose those.

I did lose my steering wheel controls without the unit though....

Pac has another adapter just for the steering wheel controls. I bought the adapter for my 06 and turned out I nvr needed it but since I have it Im too lazy to rewire the stereo and take it out and sell it

It's an 07+, so i'd lose chimes going without the PAC adapter. Just wondering if ppl done this and lived with it. The steering wheel one is if you have the radio controls on the wheel which I don't have.
