im purchasing a Kenwood DPX300U headunit and im wondering what RMS i should be looking at for my 6.5 speakers in the doors (2dr) and the 6x9s in the deck. when i get my sub setup i will be purchasing a 4 channel amp so i might amplify the 6x9s at some point. so what would RMS and Peak power should i be looking for?

Personally I'd hold off on the door speakers until you get the amp. The head unit upgrade itself will wake up the factory speakers somewhat. I have pioneers (low rms models) and the head unit cant push them past 25ish without distorting. I would pick some speakers you like and select an amp for them If I were you. Sonic electronix has a handy tool for matching speakers with amps.
