Front Speakers Barely Work...

Just bought a 2007 LT 4-door. Base H/U (not Pioneer)

Both front speakers barely work and are mostly treble with ZERO bass. If I fade to the back, all sounds fine.

So, would this be blown speakers or failing head unit?

Thinking about upgrading the system but want to do it in stages.

Yeah, front speakers are crap, I just replaced all 8 in my 4 cars with some Bose 3way! You will have to get speaker adaptors. I got them from amazon.com, you may be able to get them cheaper somewhere else but they had them in stock.

Thanks for the input Coby7.

What size are the stock speakers front & rear? I have a set of 5.25" I had in my Harley that I pulled when I upgraded them. They are only a couple of months old and if will fit, will throw them in until I can do the whole system.

6.5" front and 6X9 back. I got the Bose for less than $40 a pair delivered and they sound good according to my daughters. My hearing isn<t that good anymore but they sound okay to me too.

You can also fit 5.25" speakers with a bracket (I run 5.25" mid/woofers up front). Sosche makes one.

You mean Boss, not Bose.

Honestly every time I bought door speakers I just picked up the cheap $20 set at walmart.. sound pretty good for next to nothing and I have a pair somewhere going on 5 years old now still working fine

---------- Post added at 04:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:20 PM ----------

Obviously they wouldn't win any competitions or anything but they sounded better than the sony and pioneer speakers that were running 50 bucks a set

Thanx, Amazon also confirms they fit my 2010. I assume these fit the base system (only Link USB input added) with the default 2+2 layout?

My right speaker was going in and out and is finally dead. I'm just wondering if I should replace the speakers, or if a new stereo and/or amp is in order.

I mean, I'm running the audio output at 80-90% constantly and wonder if I'm really a candidate for a system replacement, as the stock is not adequate.

Or did these Boss speakers really prove over the stock fronts? Anything else needed? Thanx!

Well you should still be getting plenty of volume out of the 6x9s. If not, then the stock head unit may be on it's way out. I recall even when my front speakers were on their way out, the rears still provided mostly enough volume.

Great input guys.

Dumb question: Do you have to get the adapter kits for aftermarket 6.5s or will they fit in the OEM ones?
