Headlights won't shut off

07 Cobalt, the auto headlights won't shut off at all, tried the off switch, the display says auto lights off but they stay on. Disconnected the positive at the battery, waited 5 or so min , reconnected and started the car waited about 5 min tried again to get them off but they stay on.
The headlights did this before and I could always turn on the ignition and use the manual shut off. What's up ?

So I also searched Google most problems seem to be water damage at under hood fuse box. We are having a very light drizzle outside . When I opened the box it was dry as well as everything else. I pulled the DRL 10a fuse , the lights stayed on, put a new fuse back. Checked the parking brake, it's down tight. Tried locking with the remote, lights stay on.
Checked everything that could have a switch to the light circuit, doors shut trunk shut , glove box shut. Still on.
I'll wait for a plan before I poke around with a meter or mess with relays.

Have you checked the relay if there is one for it and if there is one for drl, the switch maybe stuck on 85a..constant on...another possibility is the combination switch for the headlamps/turn signals...mine gave out 15k ago and replaced it.

Problem Solved. Found a old, very long thread by Coby. Lots of diagrams and discussion. Cut to the chase, I disconnected the battery, went to the BCM inside passenger side and pulled the C1 connector and then reset the connector tight and set the locking lever. Did the same for the C2 connector.
Connected the battery, replaced the 10a fuses under the hood and started the car. The headlights are working as they should, manual off works, auto off works, all is well. C1 &C2 are the large connectors. This is one of those drive you crazy issues. C1 highlighted. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST

UPDATE 5-8-19
This problem is by no means solved. The low headlights still stay on from time to time. No rhyme or reason, not weather, not the amount of daylight, I have no idea what causes it. Sometimes it clears up quickly , sometimes it persists for a while, sometimes it just fixes itself before I can fix it. I have no idea what the cause of the issue is. All I can do is pull the fuses, it's a frustrating mess. Any ideas on the subject are welcome.

I had what sounds like the very same issue with the headlights in my 2007 cobalt and it ended up being a chaffed wire in the harness to the BCM. The harness runs around a steel support in the dash/ center console that has a sharp edge on it. take the center console apart and check the area i circled in the attached picture i bet you find your problem. It is the white wire that comes from the switch to the BCM that you will want to check close.

Have you replaced the combination switch? It's the part that allows you to use turn signals, headlights, hi beams, etc. Mine was replaced after headlights would shut off when hitting the left turn signal.
