Wierd problem with my 2008 Cobalt LT

Okay guys here's the scoop. This morning my mother was about to leave for work. She go in my car, put the key in, tried to turn it on, and nothing. Then she tried to take the key out and it was locked in the ignition. After an hour ( give or take a few mins ) my grandpa went in there and the same problem. Then out of no where everything went back to normal. So later on i went to go pick up my mom from work, car was working fine. I shut my car off in the parking lot and there it went again. Key was locked in.

Just to point out when this happens there is no power what so ever in the car. It totally shuts off all power.

The only thing that I have done to the car was put in half of a speaker system. 2 10" subs, 2 speakers 2 tweeters all connected to the amp.

There's 2 things that I think may be the problem. 1 - The battery is broken. 2 - there's something wrong with the computer system of the car.

If anyone has encountered this sort of problem, please help. The dealer shop is closed right now and I'd have to wait until tomorrow morning, but I would appreciate any information on this matter.

the locked key occurs when the car loses power, it's a built in safety feature in the car.

As for the main issue with cutting out power, i have a few questions, and a couple things to check for:

Q1: what is the weather condition like when the problems have occurred?

Q2: When the car does work, what is the DIC saying about battery voltage?

Q3: When the car does die, it's only for a short period of time? How long of a time?

Possible cause 1: it could be a short at the battery, check both your positive terminals to make sure they are tight, and check that your ground wire has a proper chassis ground, just follow it, and make sure it's properly connected.

Possible cause 2: check the powered terminal under the hood, make sure it's tightly connected, and that wire isnt grounding anywhere it shouldnt(thus causing a short).

Possible cause 3: check all the wiring for anything you have added, making sure you didnt jump into a vital circuit for the car with your system. A bad connection, or a faulty ground from an aftermarket installed system may cause that issue, and overloading a circuit will do it too.

lol somethign just like this happened to me in my work truck.

i drive a 1998 chevy 2500 pickup truck or work. I finished delivery some kegs to this one bar, i go to start my truck and nothing. Absolutly nothing happens, no battery is even coming on, no cranking. So i call my boss he calls a tow. Tow truck comes the guy puts the key in and turns it so it can be put into neutral. Still no electric. Then as he is pulling the truck up onto the flat bed, about halfway up i hear the ac click on, and all the lights turn on. Im thinking WTF! W/e they towed it and the mechanic fixed the problem, but the worst part is.... i have no idea what the problem was lol... sorry.
