What's Going on with These Cobalt Prices?

Hi people,

I finally got around to deciding on exactly what I want with my new Cobalt, so I asked 2 dealers for a competitive price. To my amazement, both prices came to the exact amount to the nickel!!

Whats going on? Collusion between dealers on a rock bottom threshold? Anyway, I would appreciate any opinion on the price I recvd for my 2010 sedan 1LT,Manual Trans, with My Link Package for $15,494.80. This is excluding local tax, lisence, dealer fee (about $450), etc. Sound like a good deal people?

Thanks!!

Many times in the same city or geopraphic area dealers will do that to eliminate "The guy down the road will sell me the same car for $XXXX" techinique. The Tulsa, Ok area Ford dealers tried that for many years in the late 1990's, now they are back to fighting for competition. Best way to get a good deal is to drive a bit, I drove 45 minutes to get a deal on my Cobalt.

Good points, people. Wow, I didnt know.. Time to call someone across the Bay.....LOL.

So, how would the dealer 25 miles away know to offer lower prices? I dont get it. OR, is it up to ME to offer them what I want to pay?

Thanks!

I worked at a Dodge dealership and for a while they were having the "employee discount" sale nationwide and every dealer no matter where you went in the US had the same rock bottom price and there was no room for nagotiation(sucked for me cause I got a base commision off of every car") So you might be stuck with it. $15xxx dosent sound bad at all for the car as I paid more than that for my Coupe LT but with all options other than leather and sunroof.

Are you sure the dealers aren't owned by the same company? When GM pruned dealers here in Canada they got rid of the single owner dealers and the ones left are part of larger "auto groups". Makes it look like there is more competition than there really is.
