I'm Confused

Well awhile ago i decide to use my key to get it to my car instead of the key fob. And i turned to unlocked the car and car's horn started to go off. I figured i must of hit the emergency button or whatever its called and started my car and it off. I decide to try it again today and make sure i didn't hit the red button. But when i did it, the horn went off again until i relocked it. I was wondering does my car have alarm? Because i was never told that it did have it. But even if it did why would it do that?

maybe you have to click unlock to unlock the doors and turn the alarm off

It's the content theft alarm that comes with keyless entry.
It's activated if you lock the car with the remote.
GM has been using it for a while. I had it on my 02 Sunfire also.
The good thing is to stop it you just have to turn the key on.

yeah, i was going to say, locking with the key fob 1) locks the doors and 2) sets the alarm. therefore using the key only unlocks the car, but does not disable the alarm, if you want to use the key without setting off the alarm you need to lock it with the key also

It's one of them things the dealer didn't even tell me about either.
But i already knew about from before so it didn't matter.

On the same note--- I did not get a fob with my car, just a key. I lock it from the inside, then open it with the key, and the alarm goes off every time. Do I need to get a new fob? Or is there a way to disable it?
