Take the 4 K Check or Get It Fixed..

So an elderly couple just hit me(poor cobalt) and just got an estimate from my insurance agent saying its gonna cost around $4095to fix it. I want to transform this lt into an ss/sc soooooooo bad, but keep it ss/na so i dont have another excuse to drive like a crazy street racer from tokyo drift ha. I want to hear what i should do with this..basically whats needs to be repaired is the bumper shocker, cover, rear quarter panel dented in, scraped paint on the rear left side bumper, left headlight destroyed and left headlight bracket. Also the hood was documented as replaced but its not bad at all, my insurance agent hooked me up ha. I want to hear your opinions.

Get the car fixed. The only main appearance difference between the SS/SC and SS/NA are the rims, front and rear lips, and maybe the wing.

Personally I think you should get it fixed but I also think you should get another estimate from a body shop and tell that body shop up front what you want done. Most body shops will work with you. For instance I had a lowered s-10 and i hit a deer. Instead of replacing with factory parts the body shop ordered cowl hood, street scene grill inserts and lower valence and bumper cover and this was the body shop at Jennings Chevrolet none the less. The factory parts were more than the aftermarket so I did not have to pay anything and I got what I wanted and i know many people who have done this type of thing. Just be up front with the body shop in the beginning. You are allowed to get work completed at any body shop YOU want not where the insurance company wants.

ha niice! yah what i meant to say was that i can either take the check and go get different quotes and yes! get aftermarket, example the left headlight alone costs 150 ebay 3rd gen halos-100..or take it to a dealership and talk to them about maybe getting a full car inspection and hopefully one bodyshop would fix some things needing to be fixed. I recently had my check engine light keeps turning on and off periodically; would be saving money in the end if they took care of w.e needs to be done. what you think?

But yeah i was definiately being up front even with the agency, he said i could have an ss bumper instead of my previous ltz bumper. He even said i could just take the 4 k check and do nothing to it but i want it fixed, with an ss bumper and hopefully try to add the oem ss lip for the front side and back. You think i could possibly, since theres more parts, and cost for the ltz to be fixed.

I agree with what dropped said. Also remember that if you can find some of the easy parts at salvage yards or other places yourself you may be able to save some money that route to put elsewhere. Bumper covers and light assemblies are faily easy to replace yourself.

So I went to a few places to get estimates on my car..First was ressler's chevy in mandan, nd. They said it would cost $192 extra for just the ss front bumper and $900 plus for the ss bumper with the ss/sc lip kit and the two side skirts, buut not the back ss/sc lip because they didnt want to drill holes for the inserts and would cost another $500 for the back ss bumper and lip. All not painted. Daune's was more legit only costing 900 for the whole ss/sc lip and painted. But my buddie reffered me to R&M which would only cost $500 additional for them to essemble and paint the ss/sc kit, along with agreeing to help me out with my check engine light;) They were the most straight forward with me and told me to order the ss bumper and lip online through sites like ebay(bc it would be the cheapest) which i already knew was i wouldnt go to far over the insurance check they already gave me. Congrats to Mitch at R&M Auto, I will see you soon! If anyone knows where i could find 06 ss bumper, ss/sc front, side and back lip kit..You would help me out with endless websearching, instead of studying time thanks!
