Cobalt > Deer

So I was driving a back road with some of my friends as were heading back to my dorm. All of them sudden I hear one of my friends curse, and a deer darts out into the road just ahead of us. I was going 55 and slammed on the brakes, but the deer still wasn't fast enough and I ended up hitting it at about 35.

The car was still driving so I drove it to a gas station to inspect the damage. The plastic casing for my right front light was shattered, but the light was still fine. The very edge of my hood has a dent in it, and my right fender has a dent (along with some deer uglies...), but other than that the front end was completely undamaged which surprised the hell out of me given how hard I hit the deer. I also was worried because as I drove the accelerator pedal had locked up and wouldn't depress beyond a certain point, but as soon as I shut off the car it released, so I'm hoping the computer just needed to reset. All in all, I'm just surprised my car held up like it did, I would have thought any animal that big would total a compact car.

I feel bad for the deer because I'm pretty sure my cobalt got off a lot easier than it did...

Any thoughts on what the repair cost might be? I can live with the dents for a bit, but I'd really like to replace the headlight casing so I was thinking of just going to a junkyard.

I'd got to a junk yard or try crateenginedepot.com for new parts!

I already hit a few deer with mine as well as a dog that caused over $3000 in damage!

I had a raccoon do about $2500 in damage to my Cobalt, leaving me and a bunch of friends stranded on our way back from the Gentleman's club.

Deer also did about that much in damage to the G5 when I had it.

Mine's definitely not gonna be that much, maybe $20 for a new light casing from a junkyard, and then $100 or so for some body work on the couple dents which aren't really pressing to get fixed right now.

I guess I got lucky

Don't ever feel bad for the deer... They're the four-legged pigeons of the Midwest.

haha, I have to feel bad, my major is wildlife biology and I'm planning on going to vet school, but yeah...in Texas hill country the deer population is wayyy to high right now, so in a way I did a service.

And I actually already got the headlight replaced. The only decent one was from this one junkyard, and the guy wanted $65 (and it was scuffed a bit), but we went to an after market warehouse and managed to get a brand new after market for only $70 so I'm pretty happy.
