Finally Doing Some Upgrades After 2.5 Years of Owning

I've had my Cobalt (my first car) since Christmas time of 2009 and this summer I am finally doing some upgrades and tweaks. Funny thing is that I am soon due for a new car as well, so all of these upgrades are non-destructive.

However, I will be doing some experimenting with Plasti-dip and I am upgrading my speakers to some Pioneer and Boston Acoustics as well.

I will be posting some pics to this thread again of what I have done and what I will be doing in the near future. Expect something on Wednesday (that's when my speakers come in from Crutchfield).

I do have one question for you guys. The door pull trim pieces on the driver and passenger sides (Cobalt 2dr lt) have gone to hell and I need to find paint to match the silver trim that came stock. Do you guys know of a place I can go to find info? I have searched online for just plain replacements (they have deep deep scratching) and I can find nothing in the silver. I don't want to repaint everything but I want to find the stock silver somewhere.

Thanks and I'll post pics and stuff later.

Currently added/modded to car (minimal stuff):
  • Rear headrest delete
  • Aftermarket Bluetooth audio streaming
  • Escort Passport 8500 X50 Blue radar detector
  • Official Police K-9 identifier sticker (family in police force)

To be completed:
  • Front speaker replacement - Pioneer 3-way speakers
  • Rear speaker replacement - Boston Acoustics 2-way speakers
  • Paint rims gunmetal
  • (Maybe) some interior trim painting

sounds like a good project, is the exterior paint the same color as the interior pieces? If its the same, you can order the silver paint by part number. Or just do both of the door trim pieces black

Supposedly. I have silver ice metallic exterior and the silver trim. I'm not sure if that is the same paint code or not. I have no idea where I can find out either. Lol

if you have the tan interior with black radio and HVAC and the darker grey trim, you could try just a layer of clear coat on it. it gives a a wet/metallic flake look that I think is really badass!

Not to sound like a dick or anything but hopefully you don't have passengers in your rear seat. My buddy is an engineer and the headrests are there for a good reason. If you were to get into an accident and someone was back there without a headrest it could cause serious damage. If you have passengers back there i would highly recommend sacrificing looks for safety and put them back in. If no one rides back there then its all good. Sounds like you got a good start on things. Keep the mods coming

I don't normally have people back there. Every now and then I have one person, but I mostly have two max. I took them out mostly because I was having trouble seeing out of the back. The spoiler doesn't help either, but the head rests were easier to remove and I can see much better now.

Also, what do you think about my rims painted black? Do you think that would look good? I'm on the fence.

It would be plasti-dip, nothing special or permanent.
