Question Engine Interchange

I hate to be the new guy with a problem BUTTTTT. Here goes I have an JAN 06 cobalt with a blown motor (timming chain broke & destroyed the block) I understand the EGR valve issue, But arent all 2.2 ecotec's long block's the same from all car's. The auto wreckers tell me 2003-2006 only and then only some model's. I have a guy localy willing to sell me a low milage 2007 motor but I am being told it will not work. please help me end the confusion

If you are a 2005-2008 cobalt, it will work as long as you were a 2.2 and the engine is a 2.2 and it comes from the same drivetrain as yours
