No Go in Snow in "D"

Bizzarre thing happened over the weekend: Tried to go up my snowy drive way in my '05 LS auto. As soon as the tires started to spin, the "Low Traction" message came up on the dash and all power to the front was cut. Tried backing down and going forward with the same result every time. Wife comes out, puts in low gear, and drives right through it. Is this supposed to happen?

It's because putting it in low turns off traction control.

Low gear is your best friend in the winter with these cars. Gotten me out of the snow many times.

I solved that by ripping out the TC fuse.

Done in all gears.
