Governer Buzzkill

Not that it's important, or that hooliganism like this would be condoned by me or anyone else, but what are the speed limiters set to on our cars? By experience, I can tell you my manual '06 G5 base cuts out at 105mph, (just a touch shy of 170kph for my fellow metric mates) and I assume the LS/LTs with L61 would be a similar story. Any faster with the stock 'loosey-goosey' suspension and the car would feel so disconnected and unstable that the whole thing would lift off and do a backwards somersault with nasty results. That's how it feels as a driver anyways. What about the 2.4, SC and TC? And can the governor be removed without a tune? Maybe pulling a fuse or wire somewhere? What's it like at the limit with these cars? Would love to know, also I apologize for glorifying street racing, I'm just a little too curious for my own good.

Limit of the sc and tc is 155mph. Limit of the sport is 135mph.

From personal experience, even with my lowering springs, 170mph in my ss (yes i tuned it) was quite scary. Seemed to float quite a bit.

As far as the govenor, no, it can only be changed or removed by a tune.

Damn, 170, that's a big ticket...
There's plenty of steam left by the time I hit cutoff, engine's spinning a tad over 4,000RPM in 4th gear. I wonder what the theoredical top speed would be.. Anyways, thanks for the info!

I think you're stretching it a bit. Won't believe you unless you show me the speeding ticket.

That's only 15-20 mph faster than it tops out at from the factory. With a tune and a maybe a little work I don't see why it couldn't hit 170

whew, 170, only did about 158(GPS, speedo was at 160 mark) in my SS before I got out of it due to running out of good enough road.

Any balt non sport/ss should able to do 120-30. Big factor is having the right rated tires thats why some hit 105 or so and "stall" out, my LS only did 105 cause of the stock continentals on it.

Had the Speedo pinned on mine once, definitely kept going. Speedo maxed at 140. Tires make all the difference.

my post makes it seem like all you have to do is switch tires lol. Not the case, just stating most tires from factory are not rated too high, hence the computer governed limiter so you do not go down the road at a dumb speed and the tires explode. I know many know this but just clarifying for whomever comes in and and does not.
