Red Hot Exhaust

2005 colbalt 2.2 One day car just started running really bad. Then it wouldn't start. Had a tune up done, and replaced fuel pump. Now car is still running badly and the exhaust pipe around the cat is red hot. Also throwing a p300 code. Appears cylinder 2 is not firing, would this cause the hot exhaust pipe?

Unburned fuel igniting in the CAT is never a good thing. You aren't getting spark. Checking the plug would be the first logical step.

You need a new cat. Simply replacing the plug is not going to help as the cat is probably clogged. Do not drive the car until it is fixed

Think about it. Something has to ignite the fuel

P0300 is multiple misfire, but like the other guys are saying your cat is plugged. You will need a new one.

Getting all the built up pressure...from the bad converter...causing the misfire.

Clogged cats happen.

I hate GM converters...get a universal Magnaflow one off of EBay...should be less than a hundred bucks for one and have a shop weld it in. Shop shouldn't charge more than $20~ to do that.

Shop will prob charge an hour to do it unless your cat is under the car and not behind the motor like mine

bad cat, that will skew the fuel trims enough to cause misfires.
