Winter Rim Problem from Canadian Tire.

Hi. my name is Joe. I been reading a lot of good information before but I'm writing first time.

I've bought Snow tire and Universal Aluminium rim at the "Canadian Tire" about 3 or 4 years ago or could be 5, they told me if I buy the tire from them they will give me the Life time warranty and later time service manager changed and saying they have changed policy. so no more warranty on them. Duh~.

and now here is the actual problem I have. since it is Universal rim, it doesn't sit on my wheel's hub at all. Rim's center hole is too big. I didn't know anything about these until one of mechanic told me that is absolutely BAD. What do you think? I've bought these about 3 or 4 years ago. but it is only using them in winter. Please give me your precious thought. Do you think is it safe to drive???

In November, when I put the snow tire on it, I found the car rattles crazy when I drive. so I put front tire to back and all that rattle disappeared. I'm guessing these rim doesn't sit on the center hub. maybe that is why off the center and gave me all that rattle~??? Maybe?!

If you use tapered lug nuts and are careful when installing them you should be good provided the wheels also have tapered holes. Torque nuts with wheel off the ground. An eccentric ring would have been better but you can do without.

Seems odd, I would think if they are the right bolt pattern that the lugs would center the wheel.

Did the wheels do this right from the first year they were installed? If not perhaps they are bent. or the tires are out of balance.

If you are concerned, you can get hub centric spacers that will take up the gap between the wheel and the hub.

Safe if you centered the wheel by tightening with weight of the wheel.

If you rotate the wheels, put the ones in the front in the back and vise versa you could check that way.
Its possible that all wheels are out of balance. Its possible that some wheels are bent. Its possible that you have broken belts in one tire.
All possible causes.

I think it would be difficult to get the wheel off center and tightened up if the bolt pattern is correct.
