Question Swapping Automatic to Manual

Just a quick question,

So, I already know how to drive a manual transmission and really wish my car was just that, but because I had limited options I went with the automatic. I was actually just wondering if anyone thought it would be worth swapping out the automatic transmission to a manual transmission. What type of parts besides the transmission and clutch am I going to be looking at?

practically every sensor haha and lots of other parts

it'd be cheaper and easier to just trade the car in for a 5speed. this gets asked all the time on g5club.net and css.net and thats the answer everyone gets there to, but if you were to do it, then i think youd be the first

see i would do that if I didn't have a loan, but I don't know how well the information would transfer on the loan seeing as I have a cosigner and everything or is that fairly simple?

Like everyone else said, you woukd have to change all the sensors and even the ecu of the car. Cars are not like they use to be, everything is connected to the computer of todays cars.

Please understand that the posts above -- where everyone is telling you it can't be done -- are true. Mechanically your friend can install a manual tranny from a wrecked "donor" Cobalt into your Auto-tranny-equipped-Cobalt but you would then need to change out the engine wiring harnesses, ECM, and add the TCM (trans control module) too. Also, the ECM from the donor car may not work in your car because the ECM is flashed with information based on your VIN -- unless the donor car has every option exactly like your car it probably will sense a problem and not work -- you would have to get the ECM reflashed -- and you would have to use a VIN from a manual-tranny-equipped Cobalt that has exactly the same options as your Cobalt. This is not a simple swap like older cars because, as previously stated, everything on this car is computer controlled and they are interconnected! If you were to progress with this you better have a lot of money handy for the unexpected.

I may have solved my problem... i might be selling the cobalt, and getting a 2004 Saturn Ion coupe, its black, 5spd, 3 door with a 2.2 ecotec, alloy rims, with about 32,000 miles.
