Gas Smell 2005

I've had this problem for years now and there are no open recalls on this item. When I fill up the tank I always have a very strong gas smell coming from the tank for days/weeks and the top of the tank is moist. My normal mechanic has looked into it and verified it is an issue at the top of the tank and fits the description for the 2006 recall. I've had the dealership look at it while it was there for the ignition switch recall and he said there is no recall on the problem. Is there any way to get GM to roll in the 2005s into the 2006 recall for this problem? My mechanic says he can't find a new replacement tank for under $900 (about a year ago I had him look).

Is there any way I can fix this myself without spending more than the car is worth?

Usually it's the plastic that cracks at the top of the fuel pump assembly, so you may have to replace it. You can get aftermarket...

GM#15245457 discontinued

I'm new to this forum and I just came across this thread. Yes, it looks like GM PN 15245457 is discontinued without a replacement. You will have to search for an aftermarket replacement or look through salvage/junk yards. Here's confirmation that the part is discontinued for reference https://www.gmpartsprime.com/oem/gm-...odule-kit.html

It's a good thing they discontinued it because it was crap. Imagine building a fuel pump with plastic that cracks when in contact with gasoline. ACDelco is still producing the MU2300, it's a bit pricey but at lease the plastic top mount is made to withstand gasoline and not made of bio-degradable plastic.
