So I was wondering if I would see any improvements if I just gut my stock downpipe to make it catless myself? as I am going turbo later on and dont want to waste money on a expensive downpipe. Could I just drill my cat out or would It be better to cut that section of pipe and weld another pipe the same size as stock in its place?
Has anyone done this can it be a cheap mod thats worth giving a try?
Gutting the DP will do nothing but make it sound like crap. I read an article a while ago about some people actually putting it to the test on a dyno. Because the cat is the shape it is, it causes every bit as much restriction as the cat because the flow is not smooth. Replacing the cat with a straight pipe will help out a little, but still not much.. Especially with how tiny the 2.2 downpipes are.
Here is a link to a few pics comparing the 2.2 DP vs the LSJ DP https://www.yourcobalt.com/forums/eng...led-2-2-a.html
If you are looking for a cheap solution, the LSJ DP is the way to go. Or you could buy a catless DP from racing solution when the release them in the next couple weeks.
But still, At end of the day, catless is going to sound like SH!T
