I'm not sure if the heat sheild is 100% necessary. Your EGT's are going to be much higher on the M62 unless you run 90% methanol with a meth/water injection kit, and crank up the timing.

I didn't use it when i have the JBP (failure) header on, and i didn't run into any problems. When i get my new longtube header from Josh, i'll be wrapping it in header wrap.

I even removed the insulation blanket from the firewall, but it's up to you. Just made my life easier when working on the back of the motor.
