Exhaust Questions

So I threw on an SS catback on my LS tonight, I had to cut it to get it in because my lack of proper work area, and I have air leak where I put an adapter and clamps where I cut the piping. Is there a way to re-attach the piping where the cut is so that its not only holding the pipe strongly but also sealing it air tight? besides an adapter and clamps?

Also, i drove it around the block when i finished, which is how i know the pipe is leaking air, and i noticed a smell from my engine bay... The area behind the engine where the cat is was HOT! .... could this be from the air leak and lack of back-pressure? or perhaps bc the catback hadnt been used for a while until now?

I am planning on taking it to a local shop that did my exhaust for my stratus tomorrow, but i wanted to ask anyway. Im not concerned about that, bc ill just have them take the adapter out and weld the pipes together, so it wont cost much. What im worried about is that my cat got super hot from a 5 minute drive, hot enough to make something stink
