2.4 ---> 2.2

Some Quick questions guys and gals, will 2.4 headers fit on a 2.2? Also is there a difference if one or the other is manual or automatic? And will the 2.4 headers mate with the 2.2 downpipe? THANKS

Considering the fact that you can install a 2.4L exhaust manifold n the 2.2L without anything but new qaskets the chances are the 2.4 header will fit on the cylinder head and mate up with the DP. Whether or not the 2.4L header will fit the 2.2 depends on the water pipe routing -- it may hit it on the 2.2L equipped cars; also, you need to look at the year of your 2.2 -- if it is an 07 or later you will need to plug the O2 sensor bung (that was the biggest change in the manifolds through the years) 07+ 2.2 has O2 sensor in DP; 06 and earlier have O2 in manifold...2.4L has the O2 in manifold. ...and finally there is a difference in the length of the DP depending on tranny -- the auto equipped DPs are longer than the manual equipped DPs -- since you will be reusing your DP this shouldn't matter in your case.

So to sum up, if his 2.4 headers are from an auto it will fit on my 2.2, but if his 2.4 headers are from a manual it wont fit on my 2.2L. Mine is an 08 ls auto...

Another note, im just replacing the header not the downpipe.

Why not? The downpipe is more restrictive than the manifold IMO.

The header from a 2.4 MAY NOT fit a 2.2 engine without some re-work. It may hit the water tube/pipe that is at the back of the engine coming out of the water pump. Depends on how the water tube/pipe is installed.

The DPs are different between the manual and Auto equipped models.

Exhaust manifolds can be swapped regardless of tranny, but the HO2S-1 sensor positions need to be verified.

Is this any clearer?

Just wondering, not trying to tell you one way or the other...but why would you want to? Is an aftermarket header out of the price range or do you just have a good source for the other header?
