Exhaust Setup Question

Does anybody know how much of a difference swapping the muffler on the stock exhaust would make? I know it won't make much of a difference, if any, on the performance side, mainly just wondering about sound. I have a K&N SRI on it now, but the exhaust is completely stock. Anyone have any idea if swapping the muffler would make a difference or not? If so, what muffler would you guys suggest? It's a 2.2L NA...

I bought an EBay catback for like $140~ bucks...

Bought a Borla Pro XS muffler...2.5" in/out and put the stock SS tip back on. Looks stock, very mellow, no rasp or drone. Love it. And it actually helps performance a bit too. Adding a full catback vs. a muffler will probably net you around 10~ crank horse I'm sure. Wasn't bad at all for $200~ I spent all together. I changed the muffler because the ebay one that came with the catback sounded awful.

See thread here: https://www.yourcobalt.com/forums/eng...take-vids.html

Installed the catback in about an hour or less with simple hand tools and a cutting wheel to hack the factory one in half behind the driver's side wheel. Makes install a breeze.

Just watched your video, I like the sound! It doesn't sound like a fart can by any means. I'm wanting mine louder without it sounding like a fart can, so your setup would be just about perfect for what I'm looking for. I'd maybe want it a bit louder, but can't really tell how loud it is in the video.

Is this the muffler that you have? It seems pretty affordable, which is the best part to me!

I got my Borla on EBay for $68~ if I remember right.

I don't buy from vendors like that...but yeah that's the muffler. You should be able to key in the PN# on EBay and it'll pull up plenty of them.

That was the day after the install, I have a K&N Drop-In, Gutted airbox, and a ZZP Intake tube as well...but since then the resonator and the muffler have "broken in" a little bit if you will, so it's a smidge louder than the video. It's perfect honestly. If I want more noise out of it; ever...it'll get a shorty header. Keeping the factory downpipe I think is key...since most high flow converter/downpipe give it that raspy/buzzsaw note.

Wouldn't steer you wrong there...I try to keep this exhaust note in check as much as possible since it's a non-boosted four banger and the last thing you want is loud and Honda based business.

Yeah I was planning on buying it off eBay for sure. With my K&N SRI I'm guessing it would sound pretty similar to your setup. The Tsudo N1 off eBay is essentially the same exhaust as the Option Racing one from what I've seen, so I may go with the Tsudo to save a few dollars and then buy the Borla muffler to go on it. I've got dual cutouts and tips on my car right now too, with nothing coming out of the passenger side, (it was like that when I bought it, it wasn't my idea) so I may also take it to a shop and have them put a Y-pipe on it and run it to the passenger side too.. I'm hoping it wouldn't negatively effect the sound though!

I'd get a single outlet exhaust.

Everything else is silly on a MPG DD.

That would require more work than I can afford to do. I would have to remove the bumper lip and fill the spots where it rubbed the paint off and then have to get it painted.

You should post pics, so I can understand what you're getting at.

Regardless, the more muffled the setup is...the better.

Loud, N/A four cylinders...sound like crapo.

In for pics of that setup. Just remember its really easy to put too big of exhaust on these as far as efficiency goes and even easier to make them sound like crap.

Too big is a big no-no. For forced induction and lots of boost, 3" all the way back. For n/a setup, 2.25" is just right.
