October Meet Location Poll (north GA)

I think we have a few spots in mind. Other options are available. For now the date will be October 16th/17th as it is a camp site, but the meet will be on sunday for those making it a one day thing.

Please don't blindly vote, let us know why you picked what you picked (activities, location, scenery...etc) so if we find something else other than these three we can try to accommodate the most people.

Also if anyone has suggestions on what I can add to this post, let me know and I will edit as needed.

There lodge also has a swimming pool, which is available for the exclusive use of the park's lodge and cottage guests.

Cottages / Cabins - There are 18 cottages in Red Top Mountain State Park ($100 - $135), two of which are dog friendly.

Camping - TENT, TRAILER, RV - 92 sites ($23 - $25); GROUP CAMPGROUND - Pioneer Campground (the price is dependant on group size)

Park Activities:

Hiking / Trails - HIKING - There are 12 1/2 miles of wooded hiking trails in the park. These vary from 1/2 mile to 5 1/2 miles, traverse the woods and the shoreline, and vary in ratings from easy to moderate. One of the trails is a 3/4 mile paved loop trail that is ADA accessible and is is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. The paved trail passes the Vaughn cabin, which hosts a variety of park programs, and includes sections that pass along the shoreline of Lake Allatoona. Map

Mountain Biking - The Iron Hill Bike Trail is a 3.9 mile shared use (hiking and biking) gravel path. It includes sections along the banks of Lake Allatoona.

Allatoona Lake - BOATING - There is a privately owned full service marina in Red Top Mountain State Park where you can rent slips, buy gas, visit the marina store, and rent boats. There are also boat ramps available for use by park visitors but they are currently closed due to the drought. SWIMMING - A swimming beach is open during the warmest months of the year. FISHING - Lake Allatoona is a popular place to fish. Anglers try their luck from the shoreline and from boats. Georgia fishing laws are enforced, which means if you are over 16 years old you must have a license to fish.

Picnics / Parties - OUTDOOR PICNIC SHELTERS - There are seven covered picnic areas. They are $40 per day and include barbeque grills, picnic tables, and trash cans. This fee is in addition to the per vehicle charge for entering the park. Red Top Mountain also has two GROUP SHELTERS that are great for larger parties $230 - $250). These facilities can accommodate more people (#1 - up to 100 people, #2 - 200 people) than the picnic shelters and are quite nice facilities. They offer a large enclosed space, are climate controlled (both are heated, #1 has air conditioning), have a full kitchen, and their own bathrooms.

Fort Mountain & Cloudland are similar. But I prefer the canyon scenery at Cloudland. I vote for location 2.

We talking camping meet or just a one day meet?

If one day, location 4 can be Summit racing in McDonough.

personally, I'm hoping for a camping meet, just because it's an excuse to do it. but I'm for option one because of the activities. the scenery does look nicer at cloudland though.

but camping for those that want, the actual meet would be that sunday for scenery shots and such.

I can add that as location 4. a little less expensive, and drive for me for sure.
