1st Gen Halo Headlights

I just bought these headlights from a friend and they come with chrome boxes on the back of each headlight that make the lights brighter. Is it possible to get these lights to work without using the boxes ? I dont really want lights that are THAT bright.

can you post a pic or a link? the chrome boxes you could be referring to are most likely the HID ballasts...can't think of anything else. If that's the case, the bulbs NEED those chrome boxes to work. that's the way a HID KIT works.
I have never heard of chrome boxes making regular lights brighter, I'm pretty sure theyre ballasts and MUST be plugged in for the lights to function.
There's also other ballasts,m which are for the halos, but they're generally smaller and black.
